Default I'm in American districts but...

... Why does no one on my team speak English? O_O

It's really odd... you gather an Alliance Battle team in the American District, enter mission in American District, and it turns out that one team speaks one language, another speaks a different language, and none of them understand English.

So... do ABs grab teams from European districts as well? Or did everyone just server hop?

Considering the way the favor wars are going, I can't think why too many would want to server hop.

And yes, only english and spanish are spoken here, and maybe some other languages by immigrants but definitely not by 3rd-generation+ natives who can't learn secondary languages at all.

So yeah, my bet on it taking teams from any district, and this will vary with time of day you're playing. Play on euro primetime = less likelyhood of american teams.

Calculating from my time, it is currently 1 AM to 3 AM in different parts of Europe. I doubt that's Euro primetime... is it?

I have no clue. It'd help if you'd name the languages.
I'm not sure, but I believe Central and South America cohabitate with North America, in terms of regional servers.
Additionally, if there are international districts, they might be a secondary source to pull from even if they don't normally take from all other regions.

A while back, there was a horde of people screaming at me in Swedish or something. It's mostly Spanish and French (That I understand... Mexico, Canada etc) but there's quite a bit of German, and others I can't recognize. Once I was the only person in my entire team that spoke English... one team spoke Japanese, the other spoke Dutch, and the other three people in my team spoke French. I'm really confused.

You get paired up with/against teams from all districts, this is why you face asian teams in RA for example who then try to trash talk you

My assumption of the American districts includes all of the Americas, north and south which would include Canadians which would have some French speaking people and all of the other languages to the south of us including South America. The United States of America has people from all accross the world.

I used to assume that American servers were United States of America servers but then one day I read it for what it actually says.

In North & South America, you will find all languages. Official country languages include English, French-Canadian, Spanish, Portuguese, Creole, and Dutch (some of these from Caribbean Islands).

Then you have the student and immigrant groups. That adds every other language in the world.

NOTE: I'm barely awake typing this, so try to figure out what I mean, as what I say may not result in the most accurate interpretation of my meaning.

The official-unofficial language of the United States is English. There are no laws saying that English is the official language, but if you check any world atlas you will see that English is America's "official language" (or other equivalent term).

Also, being able to communicate in rudimentary English is a requirement for the immigrant naturalization process.

Thus, when speaking about the United States, it is reasonable to assume that anyone playing GW from USA should be able to understand a good bit of English, especially considering that, at least on my boxes, English is the only language printed.

As for other languages in the Americas, the vast majority of the remaining languages consists of French, Spanish, and Portuguese. French mainly in Canada, Portuguese mainly in Brazil, and Spanish everywhere else.

However, if you look at the number of South American countries that are "developed" countries (per capita GDP of 20,000 USD a year or more), you'll find that none of the countries in South America qualify as "developed." This means that hardly anyone in South America has access to a computer, let alone Internet and Guild Wars. There are a few, but not many.

Then in the rest of the continent you have only a handful of countries that are "developed," mostly in the Caribbean where English is a very prominent language anyway thanks to American tourism.

As for the Oceanic countries, well I don't know much about their language so any commenting on it would be flawed.

My point is, there are an extremely few people with access to GW that live in North and South America and who don't speak English. In developing countries, hardly anyone would have the kind of money to afford a computer, an ISP, and Guild Wars (since GW would have to be imported to South America).

Granted, they may not speak it as their first language, but English, or so I am taught, is a required class in many other developed nations simply because English is so widespread and has become the main language of the world. Thus, almost anyone with access to the technology required to play GW probably knows a decent bit of English in addition to their native language.

God, I just typed WAY too much just to invalidate an argument for lots of languages on American districts.

But yes, you do get paired up internationally, which is why a lot of people don't speak English. Most of them probably can, but with you as the only primary English speaker, it's simply more comfortable for them to speak in their vernacular (I've always wanted to use that word).

I'm not trying to defend our President's actions or create a political verbal armageddon, but after experiencing an attack on two prominent buildings in our most populous city, being constantly invaded by illegal immigrants (not just from the Southern border), and having to deal with daily threats of death to the American people by right of jihad, (Al-Qaeda, Taliban, etc...) I think we're quite used to being invaded, thank you very much.

Well, I dont do RA much, but I recall when I did I would leave the game whenever I saw someone with an asian name... they were too good at GW I guess. But I don't leave anymore when I see them... in fact they're pretty funny, if you can kill them. Heck, some of the Chinese they say, I can read, but when they yell at you in English..

<Insert chinese name here>:
you idiot is killer noob!
come element house, i and u, lonesome
*After I went to the Elementalist Shrine and beat him again...*
wow u no fairly player, has sword helper us, can not see i or he is duel?

I don't want to know where he gets the translation program... but needless to say he was the laughingstock of the battle. Another reason why I don't like these mixed language teams, is that one poor person who doesn't speak the same language as others will quickly be humiliated...

Quick edit: Can we please leave politics out of this? I don't want a flame war on my hands 0.0
